Chosen, Not Yet Changed

January 7, 2026
As we begin our midweek study Walking with David, we slow down long enough to notice something Scripture emphasizes far more than David’s victories or crown: the long, unseen work God did before anything visibly changed. Long before David ever stepped into his calling publicly, God was shaping his heart privately. This message meets us in the tension we all feel when we know God has spoken, but life still looks the same. David’s story reminds us that God often speaks first, and change follows later.
Key Points:
– God speaks before circumstances change
– God’s decision and God’s timing are not always visible at the same moment
– God advances His work quietly, often asking for obedience before clarity
– The LORD looks at the heart, not outward appearance
– Being unseen by people does not mean being overlooked by God
– God speaks His will before fulfillment begins
– Faith requires trusting God when nothing outwardly changes
– God may be working in ways not yet visible in position or circumstances
– God often prepares privately before He fulfills publicly
– Faith lives between God’s promise and God’s fulfillment

David was chosen, anointed, and empowered by God yet he returned to the same fields and routines as before. Nothing changed outwardly, but everything had changed spiritually. This message reminds us that God is always at work, even when fulfillment feels delayed. We are not called to force outcomes or rush the process; we are called to trust the Word God has already spoken. As we walk forward, we do so believing this truth together: God speaks before anything changes.

Key Verses: Isaiah 43:18–19, 1 Samuel 16:1–23, Psalm 78:70-72
