Faith Under Fire
In this message, we return to John 18, still in the same night and still in the shadow of the cross. The scene shifts from the garden into the courtyard and the palace, placing two realities side by side. Jesus stands firm under pressure while Peter folds under questioning. As the story unfolds, we see not just the strength of Christ but the weakness of His followers and the powerful contrast between faith that stands and faith that folds when tested.
Key Points:
- Jesus does not surrender power, He surrenders Himself
- The words spoken to justify eliminating Jesus become the means God uses to accomplish salvation
- Denial doesn’t begin with hatred, it begins with distance
- When you create space between yourself and the truth, following Jesus starts to feel optional
- The world doesn’t reject truth because it doesn’t understand it, but because it doesn’t want to submit to it
- Our hope doesn’t rest in our successes but in His faithfulness
- The gospel is not the story of men who never fail. It is the story of a Savior who never fails
This passage reminds us that even in moments of failure, fear, and distance, Jesus remains faithful. While Peter faltered under pressure, Christ stood firm in obedience, carrying out the will of the Father all the way to the cross. Our hope has never rested in our ability to be perfect, but in the unchanging faithfulness of a Savior who never fails. Even when faith feels fragile, Jesus remains faithful and that is the good news we stand on.
