What happens when speaking the truth about Jesus brings opposition? In Acts 4:1-12, Peter and John are arrested and brought before the religious leaders after boldly proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Standing before the same council that had condemned Jesus, Peter refuses to soften the message or take credit for the miracle they had witnessed. Filled with the Holy Ghost, he points them directly to Christ and declares one of the clearest truths in Scripture: there is salvation in no other name.

This message challenges us to live as faithful witnesses, not only when people are willing to listen, but also when speaking the name of Jesus is uncomfortable, unpopular, or opposed.

Key Points:
– They could arrest the witnesses, but they could not undo the work of the Word.
– Opposition does not always close the door to witness. Sometimes it opens it.
– You will never accomplish God’s will by relying on your own strength because His work can only be done through the power of the Holy Ghost.
– Peter did not soften the truth because of who was standing in front of him.
– Peter did not change the message to fit the room.
– The world may reject His name, but God has given no other name that saves.

The gospel does not change based on who is in the room. Peter and John knew that the power was not theirs, the message was not theirs to change, and the glory belonged entirely to Jesus Christ. As witnesses today, we are called to boldly speak His name and faithfully proclaim the truth of the gospel at every opportunity God gives us. There is no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved. You need Jesus Christ.
