The Day God Filled His Witnesses
May 24, 2026
Acts chapter 2 brings us to the day of Pentecost, the moment when the promise Jesus gave in Acts 1:8 is fulfilled. Jerusalem was filled with Jews gathered for the feast, and on the exact day God had appointed, the Holy Ghost came upon the apostles with power to witness. This message walks through the coming of the Holy Ghost, the purpose of Pentecost, the sign of tongues, and the beginning of the church’s public witness in Jerusalem.
Key Points:
• The same God who chose Passover season for the death of Christ chose Pentecost for the coming of the Holy Ghost.
• Obedience put them in the place where God’s promise would be fulfilled.
• Pentecost was not produced by man, it was sent from heaven.
• It was a visible sign from God that the Holy Ghost had come upon His witnesses.
• In Acts 2, God gives the apostles power to witness and gives Israel a sign that the message is from Him.
• The power was connected to the witness, the filling was connected to the message, and the tongues were aimed at the people God had gathered in Jerusalem.
• These were not unknown sounds, they were real spoken languages understood by the native speakers who heard them.
• The gift of tongues was given to the apostolic witnesses to confirm their message was from God.
• Today, our witness does not depend on a sign, because we have the completed Word of God, the gospel of Christ, and the Holy Ghost within us.

Acts 2 does not call believers to recreate Pentecost, but to carry the witness Pentecost began. The same God who fulfilled His promise in Jerusalem still empowers His people to proclaim Christ today. The witness begins with obedience, depends upon the power of God, and centers on proclaiming the wonderful works of God through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
