The King In A Tomb

February 22, 2026
Two weeks ago we heard, “Behold Your King.” Last week Pilate wrote, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” Last week we heard our King declare, “It is finished.” Now the King who finished the work is no longer hanging on a cross. He is taken down, wrapped in linen, and laid in a tomb. John 19:31–42 reminds us that even when it looks like the story is over, God is still at work. The cross was not chaos. The tomb was not an accident. Every detail unfolded exactly as Scripture declared. What appeared to be silence was still sovereign purpose.

Key Points
– The blood that flowed from the Savior’s side was not a minor detail; it was the fulfillment of God’s promise
– Your salvation rests on a real death, from a real man, who shed real blood
– Nothing about the cross was outside the will of God
– If God did not lose control at Calvary, He has not lost control in your life
– You never know what God is doing inside someone’s heart
– The cross moves hearts in ways we cannot see
– The silence of God does not mean the absence of God

Jesus truly died. His blood was truly shed. His body was truly laid in a tomb. But none of it was outside the will of God. The prophecy was fulfilled. Redemption was secured. Hearts were already beginning to change. Even in the silence of the garden tomb, heaven was not inactive. The stone was in place. The Sabbath was beginning. The King was in the tomb. And God was still at work.
