The King No One Expected

Palm branches waved. Crowds shouted “Hosanna!” as Jesus entered Jerusalem during Passover. But while the people cried for political deliverance, Jesus came to bring a greater salvation—the victory over sin and death. In John 12:12–19, we see the crowd’s cry for a king, the humility of Christ, the disciples’ confusion, and the unstoppable power of His testimony. This passage reminds us that Jesus is not the King we expect, but the King we need.

Key Points:
– You cannot have the Savior’s help without submitting to the Savior’s rule.
– He did not come to Jerusalem to take a throne, but to take a cross.
– You often only understand God’s plan when you look back at what He has done.
– The testimony of Jesus’ power cannot be stopped by the plans of men.

The triumphal entry reveals the contrast between what people wanted and what Jesus came to give. They wanted a king to overthrow Caesar; He came to overthrow sin. They wanted a throne; He came to bear a cross. His humility fulfilled prophecy, His mission brought salvation, and His power could not be silenced. The same is true today: crowds may misunderstand Him, disciples may not fully grasp Him, and enemies may oppose Him—but the testimony of Jesus endures. The King no one expected is the Savior every heart needs.
