The Real Lord's Prayer
December 7, 2025
Most people think the Lord’s Prayer is found in Matthew 6, but that passage is Jesus teaching His disciples how to pray. In John 17, we hear Jesus actually praying just before His final hour. Before the soldiers came and before the disciples fled, Jesus stopped everything and prayed out loud so His followers could hear His heart. What He prayed for them is what we still need today: to be kept, sanctified, and sent.
As we step into a moment of ordaining men to serve the church, God has brought us to the very passage where Jesus prays over those He is sending out.
Key Points:
John 17 lets us listen to the heart of Jesus, the Savior who prays for His own before He goes to the cross. He glorifies the Father, lifts His disciples by name, asks for their protection, and prepares them for the mission ahead. Those same prayers are still being answered in our lives today. You are kept. You are being sanctified. And you are being sent.
The Real Lord’s Prayer is more than a passage to study. It is a reminder that Jesus is interceding for you right now and shaping your life for the calling He has placed on you.
