Truth On Trial
In today’s message, we remain in John 18, still in the same night and moving closer to the cross. Last week, we stood in the courtyard and watched Peter deny Jesus. This week, John takes us from the fire outside to Pilate’s courtroom, where Jesus Himself stands on trial. But as the passage unfolds, it becomes clear that the real issue is not Jesus’ guilt. It is humanity’s response to truth. This message confronts us with the reality that truth does not merely ask to be examined; it demands a response.
Key Points:
It’s possible to look spiritually right on the outside while ignoring what’s wrong on the inside
Jesus’ kingdom does not advance through force, but through faithfulness
Jesus places truth at the center of His mission
The greatest tragedy in our world today is seeing people know the truth and still choose to walk away from it
Jesus stands innocent before Pilate, bound yet fully in control, while truth itself is questioned and ultimately rejected. Pilate declares Jesus guiltless, yet still hands Him over, choosing convenience over conviction. This passage reminds us that knowing the truth is not the same as surrendering to it. The same choice Pilate faced still confronts us today to respond to the truth when it stands before us, or to walk away unchanged.
