What Happens After You Fail Jesus
March 22, 2026
In this message from our series Discovering Jesus in the Gospel of John, we walk through John 21:15–25 and see what happens after Peter’s failure. After the miracle on the shore and the invitation to “come and dine,” Jesus turns His attention to Peter’s heart. Rather than beginning with Peter’s failure or future, Jesus begins with one question that matters most, do you love Me. This powerful moment reminds us that restoration starts with love for Christ, and that following Jesus will lead us into a life of responsibility, surrender, and faithful obedience.
Key Points:
– Love for Jesus is the foundation of all ministry.
– Before Jesus ever restores a man’s calling, He confronts a man’s love.
– It is possible to stay busy in ministry and lose your love for Christ.
– If you love Jesus, you will care for what belongs to Him.
– Ministry is not about doing things. Ministry is about people.
– When you love Jesus, you care about what He cares about. And what He cares about…is people.
– Following Jesus will take you where you would not choose to go.
– Love leads to responsibility. Responsibility leads to surrender.
– You are responsible for your walk with Jesus, not someone else’s. Key Scriptures: John 21:15–25 We pray this message encourages you to remember that failure is not the end of your story with Jesus. He restores, redirects, and calls you to follow Him again. Love for Jesus is the foundation of all ministry, and when your focus stays on Him, you can walk forward in faith without distraction or comparison.
